Early voting open in lodging tax election

Registered voters who want to vote early in the city of Muskogee's special election for a lodging tax increase can do so today or Monday at the Muskogee County Election Board, 400 W. Broadway.

The city is seeking voter approval to raise the lodging tax from 3 to 8 percent. People staying in Muskogee hotels, motels or other inns would pay the tax, not Muskogee residents. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Early voting will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Monday. A two-member bipartisan absentee voting board will be on duty each day to help absentee voters.

Information: 687-8151.

Those who want to vote by mail absentee ballot have missed the application deadline.
